Crash Alert: 1 hospitalized after fiery rollover wreck in West Omaha
WEST OMAHA, NE – One person was taken to a hospital following a fiery rollover wreck that happened in the area of 180th Street and Old Lincoln Highway Sunday.
WOWT said Douglas County deputies arrived at the scene before 1 a.m. According to their preliminary details, it appears the driver of the SUV had lost control of their car while driving on the bridge, leading it to fall off the bridge, overturn, and land near the railroad tracks.
Part of the SUV caught on fire when deputies were at the scene. Deputies, who had no fire extinguishers available, did everything they could to extinguish the flames before fire crews arrived at the scene. While deputies may not have been able to put out the fire, they were able to locate one occupant who had been “in the back seat of the driver’s side.”
The passenger, who was found, claimed they were not the driver, which prompted deputies to conduct a search for other occupants, who were not found.
Deputies are working to determine if impairment may have played a role in the crash.
Updates, including the extent of injuries and any details regarding arrests/charges, will be added after our team learns more.
