Crash Alert: Teen, man killed in fiery wrong-way crash in downtown Omaha
DOWNTOWN OMAHA, NE – A 15-year-old teenager and a 21-year-old man were killed in a fiery wrong-way crash that happened on I-480 last Friday, July 11.
Omaha police told WOWT that the collision occurred after a 22-year-old man, driving a Ford pickup truck, was driving east on westbound I-480 and crashed into a black Buick.
The impact of the collision caused the Buick to catch on fire, leading the 15-year-old girl and 21-year-old man to die from their injuries at the scene. Two other passengers, two teenage girls, in the Buick survived. EMS transported the girls to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The 21-year-old man was identified as Nicholas Humbert. Police said Humbert and the 15-year-old girl were front-seat passengers.
The pickup truck driver has since been identified as Christian Stephens.
Stephens faces DUI and felony motor vehicle homicide charges and is held on a $1 million bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, August 25.
