Crash alert: Student on bicycle hit by vehicle near high school

KEARNEY, NE – A teenager riding a bicycle near a Buffalo County high school was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning, Nebraska TV reports.

The 16-year-old boy was riding near the intersection of 11th Street and 30th Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. when the incident occurred, in the vicinity of Kearney High School. School officials said the student was hit by a vehicle driven by a parent. The teen was taken to an area hospital but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Emergency crews and vehicles responded to the scene, causing traffic delays around the school. Kearney Public Schools released a statement saying the incident served as “an important reminder to use extra precaution when driving and riding bikes around the schools.”
