NUCKOLLS COUNTY, NE – The Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Office said a teenager was killed and two other people were injured in a head-on collision last week.
KOLN reports the accident occurred on Nebraska Highway 8 east of Superior March 31 at about 7:45 a.m. According to investigators, a 17-year-old male was driving a Buick westbound and crashed into an eastbound Chevy Impala. The county sheriff said the Buick driver was trying to pass other vehicles and could not get back into his lane in time to avoid the Chevy.
The 17-year-old’s 14-year-old brother, a passenger in the Buick, was pronounced dead at a hospital in Kearney. The 17-year-old was hospitalized in serious condition. The two teens were on their way to school when the incident occurred, officials said.
The driver of the Chevy, 64-year-old Lavonna Sloane of Superior, was listed in critical condition at Bryan West Campus. Investigators said the weather had caused slick road conditions at the time of the crash.
