OMAHA, NE – Authorities said one worker was killed and another injured in an accident during a tree cutting project northwest of Omaha on Wednesday afternoon.
According to KMTV, the incident took place in the area of Ida Street and 162nd Street, where a tree cutting crew was clearing a wooded area as part of a construction project.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said that as workers were cutting down a large tree, it shifted and fell in the opposite direction of where it was expected to fall.
The falling tree struck two members of the crew. One of them, identified as Matthew Thompson of Yutan, was pinned under the tree and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other worker, Cooper Lippincott of Blair, was taken to Nebraska Medicine with a broken leg or ankle.
