KEARNEY, NE – A driver was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence following a collision with a train in Kearney on Friday, reports KHGI.
Police said 21-year-old Gonzalo Ornelas-Calderon crossed West Railroad Street in the center of town shortly after midnight and drove onto Union Pacific property, where his vehicle became stuck on the railroad tracks. Ornelas-Calderon exited the vehicle before it was struck by an eastbound train. No one was injured in the accident.
Police said a breathalyzer test showed that the driver’s blood alcohol content was near three times the legal limit, and Ornelas-Calderon was then arrested for DUI.
Union Pacific Railroad Police were reported to be assisting with the investigation that involved property damage and trespassing on railroad property.
