5 Tips for Choosing the Best Motorcycle Safety Equipment

Riding a motorcycle is a thrilling experience, but it comes with certain risks. Bikers are always just one mistake away from a serious accident, and often, there is nothing they can do to avoid a crash.

SMALL HARLY PIC

This is particularly true when a negligent driver is responsible for the collision. However, if you are wearing the appropriate safety equipment, then you may be able to reduce your chances of suffering an injury.

Even the best and most cautious motorcycle riders crash. If you were in an accident and you wish to file a claim against a negligent driver, contact Rensch & Rensch Law. An Omaha personal-injury lawyer will investigate the cause of the crash and determine if you may have valid grounds for a claim.

Call us today at 1-800-471-4100 to schedule an appointment, and read to learn five tips on choosing the best motorcycle safety equipment:

  1. Helmets

Nebraska State Law requires that all motorcyclists on the road wear an approved helmet. This is the single most important piece of safety equipment that you can buy.

A good helmet must have sufficient impact protection and not restrict your sight or hearing. Look for a Department of Transportation or the Snell Memorial Foundation certified helmet to make sure it meets government standards.

  1. Boots

Your feet play a critical role in the process of riding a motorcycle. They are also vulnerable to serious injury in the event of an accident.

As such, it is important to wear appropriate motorcycle boots. Look for a pair that has a stiff sole and can protect both your legs and feet. Reinforcement in vulnerable areas, such as the ankle and calf, can help prevent injuries. Make sure the boots fit comfortably and keep your feet warm and dry in all weather conditions.

  1. Body Armor

Many riders choose to wear some form of body armor for an additional layer of protection. There are three types of body armor on the market: foam, memory foam and hard armor. Look for armor that provides impact protection and can absorb the force of a crash, and do not necessarily go for the cheapest option.

  1. Jackets

It is important to choose a sturdy jacket. Leather is traditionally a good option for motorcycle jackets because it allows you to slide if you crash on a hard surface. If you combine a leather motorcycle jacket with high-quality body armor, then you may be able to avoid serious injuries.

  1. Gloves

Gloves are critical for both protection and comfort. It is important to keep your fingers warm and dry so you can maintain control of the bike. Look for full-finger gloves that have added padding around the palm and wrist.

Wearing the right safety equipment can make the difference between serious and minor injuries in a motorcycle crash. If you were in an accident and you wish to claim medical expenses or lost wages, contact Rensch & Rensch Law. An Omaha personal-injury attorney will evaluate your claim and advise you on how to proceed. To schedule an appointment, call us today at 1-800-471-4100.
