Crash Alert: Troopers investigate fatal multi-vehicle crash near Elm Creek

ELM CREEK, NE – According to KSNB, the Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a deadly multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 80 near Elm Creek Thursday morning.

A man driving a pickup truck towing an SUV was heading west on Interstate 80 when he lost control of the vehicle in a construction zone, strayed into oncoming traffic, and hit an eastbound semi-truck around 10:55 a.m. The collision caused the towed SUV to separate from the truck and hit another SUV.

First responders pronounced the pickup truck driver dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV that was hit was airlifted to an area hospital. Their passengers were taken to area hospitals via ambulance. The exact number of passengers is unknown. The semi-truck driver was not injured.

Crews shut down the area following the crash to process the scene. It was reopened around 3:30 p.m.
