SARPY COUNTY, NE – A tort claim has been filed in connection with an accident last year that killed four Gretna High School students, according to a report by KETV.
The claim was filed against Sarpy County by the parents of Addisyn Pfeifer, Abby Barth, Kloe Odermatt and Alex Minardi. The girls, who were all 15 and 16 years old, died in the crash on June 17, 2019. Their vehicle went off the road near 180th Street and Platteview Road and caught fire.
In their claim, the parents said the area where the accident happened and the guardrail struck by the vehicle were “improper”. Among the issues cited were negligence in design, engineering, construction and maintenance, and failure to warn drivers of the dangers in the area. The families are seeking wrongful-death damages.
Authorities determined that the driver of the vehicle was going over 90 mph, and that the driver and two of the other girls tested positive for alcohol. The teens were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
