What Questions Should I Ask during My Initial Consultation with a Personal Injury Attorney in Omaha?

The skills and experience of your attorney can have a profound impact on the outcome of your personal injury case. If your lawyer does not have litigation experience in your area of need, he or she may not have the knowledge or skills to help you recover the maximum compensation. Alternatively, if your lawyer is overworked, he or she might not have the time to handle your case.

As such, it is essential that you conduct thorough research and find an attorney with whom you feel comfortable working. Although you can find plenty of useful information on the lawyer’s website, you should never commit to hiring an attorney until you have met him or her in person.

You should come to the initial consultation prepared with a list of questions. The following four questions will help you determine if an attorney is a good fit for your case:

  1. Will you charge advanced case costs even if I do not recover compensation?
  2. Will you handle my case on a contingency fee basis?
  3. Have you successfully handled cases that are similar to mine?
  4. Will you or someone else in your office be handling my case?

The accident lawyers at Rensch & Rensch Law have more than 45 years of combined legal experience, and we have litigated more than 100 jury trials. We will evaluate your case in a free initial consultation and explain exactly what we will do to help you recover the maximum compensation. Call 1-402-498-4400 today to schedule a free initial consultation with an accident lawyer in Omaha.

Read on to learn four questions you should ask your lawyer during the initial consultation:

  1. Will you charge advanced case costs even if I do not recover compensation?

Even if your lawyer offers free consultations and works on a contingency fee basis, you may still have to pay advanced case costs if you do not make a financial recovery. Make sure you fully understand all of the potential costs before you hire the attorney.

  1. Will you handle my case on a contingency fee basis?

Your attorney will most likely handle your case on a contingency fee basis, which means that you will not have to pay attorneys’ fees unless you make a financial recovery. Contingency fees usually range from 25 percent to 40 percent of the final settlement or verdict.

  1. Have you successfully handled cases that are similar to mine?

There are several specializations under the umbrella of personal injury law. Just because an attorney has successfully handled medical malpractice cases does not mean that he or she is a good fit for a product liability case or a car accident case. Make sure your attorney has successfully handled cases that are similar to yours.

  1. Will you or someone else in your office be handling my case?

The attorney who attends your initial consultation may not be the person who handles your case. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but you should ask to meet with the lawyer who will be handling your case to make sure you feel comfortable working with him or her.
