Crash alert: Lincoln woman sentenced to prison for crash that killed passenger

LINCOLN, NE – A judge has sentenced a woman to prison for a 2019 crash in Lincoln that killed a passenger in her car, according to News Channel Nebraska and the Associated Press.

24-year-old Deja Webster was sentenced to six to 10 years behind bars on Tuesday and had her driver’s license revoked for five years.

She pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in connection with the accident that occurred on April 7, 2019. Authorities said Webster was driving drunk with marijuana in her system as she drove a Pontiac G6 at more than double the speed limit on North 27th Street at about 3:40 a.m. She lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.  Webster’s passenger and best friend, 20-year-old Jasmyn Chalk, was ejected and pronounced dead later at an area hospital.

Lancaster County District Judge Robert Otte denied a request by the defense for probation in the case.
