How AI and Deep Learning Will Change Insurance Claims

OMAHA, Nebraska. Artificial intelligence is getting better and better than ever at analyzing insurance claims, crunching big numbers, and helping insurance providers match their clients with the coverage they need. According to Forbes, more insurance companies can use artificial intelligence to analyze each consumer’s needs and offer them insurance packages that work best for them. Likewise, these same companies can process claims more readily after a crash, often without even requiring a human adjuster to do any of the work. While this can be great for the insurance companies in terms of money and time saved, policyholders need to be aware of how this process can impact their claims and the value of their settlement. Computers can make errors. Sometimes these errors don’t get caught, especially if insurance holders don’t speak up. Some policyholders may not even be aware that they can dispute a denied claim. Other policyholders may not be aware that they can fight for more money if their claim doesn’t cover their expenses.

Automated systems may only account for averages and for estimates, and may not always be aware of the nuances of a claim. While artificial intelligence systems are good at applying patterns to problems and using the data they already have obtained to generalize new answers, these systems are not the same as having a human reviewing your claim. According to Wired, artificial intelligence systems still don’t have basic human common sense. The big challenge facing artificial systems that settle claims is that they may not always have context. Humans can use context to make complex decisions. Computers only have the data they have been fed. For example, when making pain and suffering claims, humans often must consider the ways in which disability might have changed a victims’ life. When it comes to the subjective aspects of a claim that involve the emotions and intangible realities of living with a disability after a car accident, a human might be best to review the settlement and claim.

Scientists are working on the problem of helping computers develop common sense, but answers to this problem might be years away. Until then, if you have been in a car accident and something about your settlement doesn’t add up, you might be wise to speak to a car accident lawyer like the personal injury lawyers at Rensch & Rensch Law in Omaha, Nebraska. Our firm can review your claim, gather evidence to support your claim, and fight to help you get the settlement you may deserve under the law. If this means speaking to a human insurance adjuster, Rensch & Rensch Law can do so. For example, if the settlement you are offered doesn’t cover your medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering, Rensch & Rensch Law can look at the terms of your policy and work with adjusters to help you get the best possible settlement under the law. If you’ve been in an accident, you may have the right to appeal your claim. Contact our firm today to learn more.
