7 Steps to Take Immediately after a Motorcycle Accident

Slick roads, distracted drivers, rogue potholes – motorcyclists face a multitude of hazards on Nebraska roads. Even the most responsible riders can crash due to factors outside their control.

motorcycle

Sadly, motorcycle accidents are on the rise. In 2015, 4,976 people died in motorcycle wrecks – an increase of 8.3 percent since 2014, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that per vehicle mile traveled, fatal motorcycle crashes occurred 26 times more frequently than fatal passenger-car accidents.

If you were injured by a negligent driver while riding your motorcycle in Nebraska, contact an Omaha personal-injury lawyer from Rensch & Rensch Law. You may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost income and non-economic damages.

Call 1-800-471-4100 to schedule a free initial consultation. You can also learn more about car accident injury lawsuits in Nebraska by visiting USAttorneys.com.

7 Steps to Take at the Scene of a Motorcycle Accident

Motorcycles do not handle the same as passenger vehicles. Their two-wheeled structure makes them less stable, and drivers are more affected by poor weather and uneven road surfaces. Even with a helmet and other protective gear, motorcycles offer no protection to riders, so a slow-speed collision is still likely to end with injuries.

If you are injured in a motorcycle wreck, it is important that you take steps to protect your interests. Behaving aggressively or making a misguided statement could prevent you from recovering fair compensation.

Remember to take these seven steps after a motorcycle crash:

  1. Look for Injuries: Your top priority after any accident is to seek medical attention. If anyone was injured, call the police and request emergency assistance;
  2. Call the Police: Even if you do not feel injured, contact the police. An officer will compile an accident report, which your attorney can use to prove negligence and liability;
  3. Stay at the Scene: Do not leave the scene of the crash until the police have arrived and compiled an accident report;
  4. Exchange Information with the at-Fault Driver: Record all drivers’ names, phone numbers and insurance information;
  5. Take Photos: Use your cell phone to take pictures of your injuries, property damage, the positions of vehicles, traffic signs and skid marks;
  6. Contact Your Insurance Company: Waiting too long to contact your insurance company could prevent you from recovering fair compensation; and
  7. Call a Personal-Injury Lawyer: An accident attorney will help you gather evidence, prove damages and recover the maximum compensation.

If you were injured by a negligent driver while riding your motorcycle, turn to Rensch & Rensch Law. A personal-injury lawyer in Omaha will evaluate your case to determine if you have grounds for a claim.

With more than 45 years of combined legal experience, our accident attorneys have the knowledge and resources to help you fight for the maximum compensation. Call 1-800-471-4100 to schedule a free initial consultation today.
