Omaha Personal-Injury Lawyer Discusses 4 Common Motorcycle Accident Injuries in Nebraska

Few experiences can match the thrill of riding a motorcycle. Unfortunately, that excitement comes with the ever-present danger of a collision.

Motorcycle Racing Gloves

In the United States, motorcycle accidents send thousands of people to emergency rooms each year. According to the Insurance Information Institute, more than 88,000 motorcyclists sustained injuries in 2013, which represented a decrease of just 5 percent from the previous year.

A serious accident can cause injuries on most areas of a motorcyclist’s body, but there are some wounds that are more common than others. If you were in a crash that a negligent driver caused, contact Rensch & Rensch Law.

An Omaha personal-injury lawyer from our firm will evaluate your case to determine if you have valid grounds for a lawsuit. Call us today at 1-800-471-4100 to schedule a consultation.

Until then, read on to learn about four common motorcycle accident injuries:

  1. Head Injuries

A head injury is one of the more serious consequences of a motorcycle accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, riders who do not wear helmets are at a high risk of brain damage and death – even in minor crashes.

A certified helmet will protect the rider’s head from impact and cushion the blow from any objects that the head strikes. Helmets are often the difference between life and death during motorcycle collisions.

  1. Broken Legs, Ankles and Arms

All of the rider’s bones are at risk of breaking in a collision with a vehicle. In particular, the ankles and legs are prone to factures.

This is because these bones often bear the weight of the bike or get trapped beneath other vehicles. If the force of the impact throws the rider from the bike, or in the event of a head-on collision, it is common for the rider to break arms and wrists as he or she attempts to absorb the blow from the fall.

  1. Spinal Cord Injuries

Spinal cord injuries are among the most severe that a motorcyclist can experience. According to WebMD, if the spinal cord injury is complete, then it is possible that the victim will not be able to walk again. Riders can even suffer spinal cord injuries in minor accidents, and these often require extensive treatment and rehabilitation.

  1. Road Burn

Road burn is particularly damaging when the motorcyclist was not wearing appropriate pants and a motorcycle jacket. This occurs when the motorcyclist leaves the bike and slides across the road surface. Road burn is painful and leaves scars that may cause permanent disfigurement.

Motorcycle accidents can be devastating. Even in the case of minor accidents, the medical treatment can be prohibitively expensive.

If you were in a crash and it was not your fault, contact Rensch & Rensch Law for advice. An Omaha personal-injury attorney from our firm will evaluate your accident and determine if you may be eligible for lost wages and health-care expenses. Call us today at 1-800-471-4100 to schedule a consultation.
